  • Help Build Lifelong Readers

    Funded Nov 3, 2018

I am so excited and thankful to announce that my project to provide a comfortable place for little readers will become a reality! Thanks to you and your financial support, my students will experience reading in a pleasant, comfortable setting. They are looking forward to being able to choose and read a book in our new, comfortable space.

In fact, many students have already picked out a book they hope to tackle as their skills improve. Just last week, one of my 2nd grade students grabbed a Magic Tree House book and declared he was ready to read it. I can picture him in our new reading area, reading and sharing with friends.

We are blessed and very grateful. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morris

  • Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

    Funded Apr 2, 2018

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom for a new listening center! My students are loving the listening center and are enjoying a variety of new books and old favorites.

My 3rd grade students are experiencing books and characters that were out of reach without the listening center. Many of them are working on basic reading skills so the longer and more complex stories in chapter books were inaccessible. Not any more! Now they're listening to adventures with Jack and Annie in Magic Treehouse Books, to tales of Junie B. Jones and her crazy antics, and to classics like Roald Dahl's BFG and James and the Giant Peach.

All of my students love listening to and reading the picture books featuring Pete the Cat, Frog and Toad, Piggy Pie, and Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel. With the listening center, I am more available to assist students with reading and comprehension strategies. And, another great benefit, my students want more. After hearing and discussing a story, my students begged to hear another!

Thank you again for your awesome generosity. You've made a tremendous difference to my class! You are the best!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morris

My students are working hard to become better readers. In class they are learning reading foundational skills and reading comprehension. They are already motivated learners and a Classroom Listening Center will reinforce and reward their hard work. My students love stories and are eager to be able to read and share with each other and with their families. A Listening Center will benefit my classroom by allowing students to enjoy stories that they aren’t able to access because they are reading below their grade level. They can choose a book and read/listen; hearing good stories reinforces the need to read! Also, students who are working on a book can also listen to it. Listening to the author read the book helps bring it alive! Finally, a Listening Center will allow students to work in smaller groups making instructional time more meaningful. Until this request, I have funded all the books, cds, and accessories (mostly AA batteries and markers) for my classroom. I have several small battery operated cd players so included in my request are AmazonBasics AA High-Capacity Rechargeable Batteries (8-Pack), an EBL 8 Bay AA Rechargeable Battery Charger, and 4 sets of Califone 2800-BL Listening First Stereo Headphones for small heads. These cd players will remain a part of the Listening Center with the requested Hamilton Buhl 6-Sation, Basic CD, AM/FM Listening Center becoming the main piece of equipment. I choose 3 packs books (Classic Read Aloud Book and CD Set, Read-Aloud Book and CD Set, and the Eric Carle Book and CD set) because they include books like Piggie Pie and Duck on a Bike. The sets will be stored in Shelf File Boxes. Lastly, some of my scholars are pretty wiggly so I choose Bouncy Bands(r) for Chairs (6) to help keep their feet busy.
