  • Quiet Chairs and Books for Beginning Readers

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom.

Our classroom is a bustle of activity. We are the newcomer class so on any given week, we may get a new student in our classroom. Most of our students are coming from countries where the educational system was even more interrupted than ours. Students may not read in their first language, much less English. Therefore, we need a variety of books at many levels to meet our students where they are.

The books purchased with this donation help bolster our library and give students, no matter what their reading abilities are, reading choices.

    Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Buchholz

  • Headphones for Language Acquisition Programs

    Funded Sep 21, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our class. The headphones have been instrumental in supporting our "Tech Time" so that students can do educational and engaging games. These reinforce what students are learning in class in math and in ELA. Some games are especially helpful for our newcomers, helping support their English language acquisition. If you were to come in during our Tech block, you would see students singing songs, working on the meaning of words, reading passages and answering questions.. This gift will continue to give for years to come.

Thank you again and wishing you a great Spring!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Buchholz

  • Back to School Supplies!

    Funded Aug 27, 2022

Thank you for your generous contribution to our class. . The supplies we were able to to purchase have helped our classroom routines run smoothly and given us more time for learning and playing.

The pencil pouches have been a surprisingly huge success! Ask any teacher, lost pencils and unprepared learners is one of the biggest time wasters in our class. But now students come to the rug prepared and ready to learn!

The folders, headphone organizers, name plates, and stickers for organizing our classroom library and been very helpful.

Thank you again and I wish you joy and peace in the New Year.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Buchholz

  • Back to School Basics

    Funded Aug 12, 2022

Thank you so much for supporting our class this year by donating to our Donors Choose fundraiser in September.

We posted the number line on our wall for students to reference and to support their number knowledge. We use it for energetic counting, finding the next ten and adding and subtracting.

We used the hangers and clips to organize our anchor charts, posters that help students understand and retain key points such as Long vowel sound spellings and math strategies.

Thank you again for your generous donation. Peace to you and yours this season.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Buchholz

  • Fun and Engaging Literacy Activities

    Funded Jan 4, 2022

Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom! Our students have been loving the new materials.

We created materials that help our English Language Learners learn English and improve their phonemic awareness skills as well as develop their reading abilities. For example, we purchased and laminated cards with images. Students hear the word and segment the sounds in the words which lays the foundation for their reading and writing abilities.

We appreciate so much your donation and wish you the very best!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Buchholz

  • Diverse Books and Cozy Spaces

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

This year we have been learning about our identities, race, and racism. The book "Alma" is a story of a little girl learning about the origin of her name. My students could relate to Alma and did some research about the origins of their own names and presented them to the class. The book "Sulwe" allowed our students to explore the concept of colorism and celebrate the skin they are in, in all its shades. As we continue to work our way through the books we will explore how we can use our voices to make this world a better place.

The cozy carpet and canopy has made our "Peace corner" a space where students can go when they feel upset or just need to take a break. I have had so many small moments of connection on that carpet listening to their worries and frustrations.

    Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Buchholz

  • Classroom Basics for ESL Class

    Funded Aug 6, 2021

I wanted to thank you again for your generous contribution and to give you a window into how the materials got used. I have to say that the laminating machine has been working over time! My co-teacher and I have used it to create engaging phonics games, a visually enticing vocabulary wall and our sound wall to just name a few things. The students have loved the sight word memory game and sight word battleship games we have created. Having them laminated means we can use them again and again!

Our students were so happy to recieve their own pencil box with a fresh box of colored pencils, highlighters, and erasers. We have used them to illustrate vocabulary words, create self portraits that show our whole self, and show gratitude to our school staff by writing thank you notes.

Thank you again for this gift that keeps on giving!”

  • Books, Art Supplies and Games to Enrich and Inspire

    Funded Dec 10, 2020

Thank you for your generous donation! We were able to give 24 students art supplies, books, and games in additon to extra school supplies.

After learning about Greek mythology, each student created their own myth that explains a natural phenomenon. Students used the art supplies to illustrate and create a sculpture based on the myth they created.

In January our class explored our identities and students used the art supplies to create a self portrait that showcased what people might not know about them just by looking at them. This kicked off our unit on racial justice and Black History Month.

Students expressed gratitude for the games and books!

    Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Buchholz

Families in our community have been hit hard by the pandemic. I would like students to be able to express their feelings and thoughts through art, but most students don't have any art supplies at home. As we explore our identities and celebrate what makes each student unique and special, students will be able to paint a self-portrait. The art supplies will also be used for our Social Studies and Social Emotional Learning lessons. Students will be able to represent what we are learning about Ancient Greek Civilization, Greek Myths and the Life Cycle of animals through painting and sculpting. The games and books will offer great opportunities for fun and learning that is not on a device.
