Our school's novels are pretty outdated - most hail from the 1980's. I am looking for high interest novels to foster a love of reading for our 8th grade English students. I have purchased books from Scholastic with my own money to support our readers, however, there is not enough choice or volume to reach every child. I am looking to build our library with novels that excite and foster a love of reading. Because our students lost three weeks this year, we feel fractured, and therefore connecting with each other is more important now than ever before. These novels highlight this theme and provide rich discussion on the nature of kindness, good versus evil, growing up, identity and various other issues teenagers face today. Having a set of five of each novel allows us to teach using literature circles. Students have the opportunity to connect to the characters and each other in order to collaborate and strengthen the experience for all.
