This year we struggled a bit trying to make sure we had enough sets of manipulatives, paper-saving tools, and math tools to get hands-on learning going. Having to cut out fraction strips, place value sets, and similar tools has been frustrating due to time constraints! My third graders would like to get started right away, and having the right tools allows us to jump right in! There are never enough minutes in the day for me or the students! If we cut down on prep time, we'll all be able to focus on the tasks at hand and get the most out of our limited minutes! We are in need of fractions kits that are accurate (instead of self-cut paper sets), whiteboards for "answer showing," write & wipe pockets (for saving paper), magnetic base ten sets for better visual instruction, hands-on STEM kits, regrouping visuals for intervention, and counters for games to keep the learning tactile and fun! The students in my school struggle with self-worth at times, and having "professional" materials goes a very long way toward showing them that they are worthy of real materials.
