I teach students in a small, rural community with a high population of students on the free/reduced-price lunch program (Title I). Many of my students are of Native American or Hispanic descent. I also have a large group of students with special needs to access their learning. My students are so eager to learn and I would love to have space for our classroom community to meet, discuss, and collaborate each day. That is why I am asking for a larger classroom rug. I want to create a defined space in our classroom where all students feel comfortable being part of our group. A rug serves as a gathering place for my students and me to engage in meaningful and at time personal discussions. I am also asking for new stools for our room as well. Not all students learn and access our curriculum the same. Some students sit in chairs, some like to stand, and some just need to be able to wiggle around to get their brain working. The stools would provide such an opportunity for those students that learn in a different way.
