Picture books deserve a place in a middle school classroom. They offer students an ability to learn language, word choice, ask questions, make inferences, become aware of oneself and so much more. All of this and more can help students in a non-threatening way through the use of picture books.
Your donation to my project will build classroom community and curiosity with my middle school students. I'm looking forward to students using picture books to help them in so many facets of literacy, as well as, life in general. Through some readings, I've found that student behavior improves through the use of picture books and a love of literature. I'm always looking for ways to encourage reading in the classroom and a book-a-day will do just that.
Picture books, according to some English language arts experts, provide excellent opportunities to teach higher-level skills while still providing an engaging experience for older students who might think they don’t like to read. Many picture books are quite complex.
