As many of my students have their own immigrant experience, I know that they will find this visual text to be both relatable and impactful. All of my students can relate to and find meaning in Tan's theme of belonging. This text would help my students further understand Magical Realism, as it would be the perfect modern addition to our unit, one that is generally of high interest to our students. It is a rich visual text that would allow all of my students to access the story and to experience success with a book, and it would equip me with a tool with which to build my students' analytical skills that will transfer over to verbal driven texts. Most importantly, the story that this visual novel tells is one to which my students should be exposed and should be asked to think about.
