Each grade level learns a new system of the body to help them have a better understanding of how to care for their bodies physically, mentally and emotionally. In kindergarten students begin with the 5 senses so they can learn how to interact with the world. In grades 1 and 2 students learn about the foundation of their bodies the skeletal system and the muscular system. In grade 3, students learn about their heart and lungs, and how the blood moves through their bodies. Students in grades 4-8 learn about brain development and the nervous system, as well as the endocrine system and the reproductive systems. Learning about their bodies gives children information to use in order to care for themselves and others. These lessons also spark great conversations that relate to decision making about exercise, nutrition, and taking healthy vs. unhealthy risks. I believe that these materials will really increase student interest and participation in all grades!
