I am a Social Worker currently providing services to over 60 students with a wide range of disabilities. My students range from kindergarten to 8th grade. My school is located in an inner-city school district, where all students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. I work with a special group of 6-8th grade students who are classified with Autism Spectrum Disorders, a middle school life-skills classroom for students with intellectual disabilities, as well as students with various social/emotional issues that interfere with learning. My students all have difficulty engaging in social interactions without adult support. Therapeutic games and sensory tools, such as stress balls and other tactile manipulatives will enable my students to access the skills necessary to have success in school and their communities, such as decision making, stress management, problem solving, emotional regulation, and turn taking. They will be able to address goals in a fun and engaging manner. The snacks are motivating and provide a welcoming atmosphere. Small items and incentives are motivating to help promote positive classroom behavior. These supplies will help to address a variety of issues presented by my students.
