• Exploring the World of Colleges & Universities

  Thank you for your support of our project! We are enjoying this virtual experience that allows students to fully experience a variety of post-secondary options.

  While most of our students have phones and the school does offer devices to use at school, the opportunity to use the iPad to visit schools virtually and showing them other parts of the US.

  Our students lack opportunities to travel which can impact their ability to see things beyond what's outside of their neighborhoods. These experiences, while in the classroom, provide a visual representation of what is possible.

• We Hear You!

  Thank you for supporting our project! We had a blast doing some really creative things towards the end of the school year. The really awesome part about this project is that we were able to enhance the quality of the productions. One example are the microphones - beyond the ones attached to their headphones. Most of our students use the microphone on their phone. The external microphone helped them see how you can use different sounds and that a real microphone gives you much better audio.

• We Hear You! Pt 2

  Thank you for supporting our project! We had a blast doing some really creative things towards the end of the school year. The really awesome part about this project is that we were able to enhance the quality of the productions. One example is the light kit. Most of our students have a ring light or some other small light to illuminate when they take a selfie or video. The light kit showed them how beneficial light in the proper place and power can really change the picture.

  The camcorder and headphones were a great asset so that made them feel important which gave them a new sense of pride on the final product.

• Reading Time

  Thank you again for supporting our project! The books were a bigger hit than we expected. We were able to use them in three ways:

  - reading circles within one of our groups, the students enjoyed the story and really got into wanting to learn more about the characters

  - book talks with students "reporting" about the book to give other students a sneak peek on what they were about to read

  - story time with their children

  Thanks again for supporting our project to get our students reading and expanding their horizons.

• Got to See It - Virtual Visits Extras

  Thank you so much for your support of our project to provide students with virtual experiences to help them get ready for life after high school.

  The items in this project is our preventive plan to make sure the items are ready for the amount of usage they will see when our students are engaged and active in the learning process.

  The students like having a tool for use on a device especially one that helps them build some writing skills. The cover is to help us keep the device from breaks and scratches that come from multiple uses amongst students.”

• Back to Basics

  Thank you for your support! School supplies are always needed so we really appreciate you making this project come to life.

  As we are entering the winter (colder) months, the Kleenex is really right on time. There is now plenty of tissue for students. The poster boards were also right on time. We are entering the projects phase in many classes so having poster board available made it easy for students to actually complete the project while at school. The crayons and markers were a HIT! Many of the students did not know such colors were available. I could tell it really made them feel seen!

• Mic Check - Audio On

  Thank you for making this project come to life! With our new equipment, students have been able to conduct some interviews that sound absolutely amazing. The ability to adjust levels and have multiple lines of audio in one place really allowed students to flex some creative muscles. Plus, we were able to teach them some different type of mixing techniques.

  Students were also able to record music to help them add some creativity to projects. Also, we discovered some musical talent as students shared files and helped their peers in adding music and various sounds to projects.

• Sensory Engineering

  Technology can be scary. The unknown can be even scarier - especially for students who want to do something different and lack the resources to do something different. Our project is planting seeds and showing students the possibilities of the unknown through technology. Using the materials from this project is helping shape new ideas of how they see themselves (college and beyond) and their future. We've done some pretty cool "trips" and "visits" sparked by student questions and interest in schools outside of DC. This was exciting and offered us the perfect opportunity utilize the materials in this project. Thank you!”
