Books are an important part of any classroom. It is so important that every student has access to books on their level and that they want to read. Some of my students have access to books at home, but many do not have money to buy new shoes, much less something such as a book. My goal for this project is to make sure that my students develop a love for reading that will last them a lifetime. One of the best parts of teaching kindergarten is that each and every one of my students loves a good story. I have included books that my students could read independently (with the Leveled Readers box sets) and books that they will love to hear read to them (like The Day the Crayons Quit and Dragons Love Tacos). A lot of the stories I chose will also help to teach my students lessons on being a good friend and person. One of the biggest parts of kindergarten is learning social and emotional skills in order to be a good friend, child, and citizen. Books like What Do You Do With a Problem? and Volcano Mouth teach life lessons in a way that is engaging and easy to relate to for five and six year olds. My students will certainly appreciate some amazing new stories to dive into! Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. We will think of you each time we reach for a new book off the shelf.
