Because almost half the population at OMS is on free and reduced lunch, the likelihood of these children having access at home to the basic technology need of a printer is very low. Funding this DonorsChoose project will impact all 800+ students at OMS, and it will bridge the technology gap for many, allowing them to interact within a digital society! As librarian I have tried to maintain our current printer for as long as possible, but age and use have ultimately ended its functionality. Students not only print articles and other research from the internet for classroom use, but also pictures for classroom projects and even manuals and diagrams for personal use outside of school. For many of my students, the library printer is the only printer they have. The selected printer has a high ppm rate allowing teachers to have classes print written poems, research and other classroom assignments quickly. It also offers a new capability to OMS, color printing, something for which many of my students have wished. I can not wait to see their faces when they discover this new printer! The current state of public education funding means that our school has no money allocated or available to replace this piece of equipment. Our students' hope for continued printing capability lies in the generosity of the DonorsChoose community.
