Write On! Apple Pencils for our iPads
Funded Aug 15, 2024Thank you so very much for your kind donation. My students were so excited to receive these Apple pencils and couldn't wait to start using them. Technology has become such an integral part of education and its great when you can find a new resource to enhance student's learning.
We have been working on the writing process and creating stories and with the Apple pencils we have the ability to present those stories in new and exciting ways. Students can draw pictures and and use them as inspiration for their writing. My kids have been working on an animation unit and the pencils give them the ability to create their own animations using apps on their iPads. When you also consider such things as note taking and practicing cursive, you see that there are many ways in which the Apple pencils add to the uses of our iPads. Thank you so much for giving us another tool for learning.”

Can You Hear Me Now???
Funded Aug 10, 2020Thank you for making our distance learning transition and day to day operations more smooth. Each student now has their own headphone set, so they can hear me and their classmates more clearly. This has made a world of difference for everyone, but especially for those who have siblings also learning from home. Some of their homes are quite loud and it is hard for them to hear what's going on in our class. Now, they have a better chance to successfully participate! Many thanks from all of us!”

Funded Jun 17, 2018Thank you for supporting our goal of reading more non-fiction text in our classroom! The students get so excited when our Scholastic News arrives! It's full of great information that brings the outside world into our world. The children also enjoy the technological component that Scholastic offers. They are able to read along with the online version and play games and videos to enhance their experience. I also look forward to learning from the articles. Thanks to you, our reading is enriched and our minds are expanded!”

Funded Sep 22, 2016Thanks to you, my students have gotten a rich experience with raising caterpillars into butterflies! The class kit came with all we needed to watch metamorphosis right before our eyes. We were all able to learn about every stage and were able to document our observations in our journals (pages provided by the kit as well!). In teaching the life cycle of butterflies, the best way to do it is to see it. The excitement of learning about this subject is ten-fold when we have the real deal on each and every student desk. My students and I can't thank you enough for such an experience!”

Getting College-Ready Through Reading
Funded Mar 11, 2015We have been using Scholastic News for the first 2 months of the school year and the kids are thrilled! They enjoy reading the interesting articles very much and are gaining so much knowledge about the world through their interaction with the text. They can't wait to get the next issue! The new Scholastic News is Common Core aligned and comes with text dependent question sheets that challenge the students to dig into the articles and use their strategies for comprehension. It's an excellent addition to our Language Arts program, as well as the various other subjects that the articles are related to. I can't imagine my classroom without this subscription! Thank you!”

We've Got Something to Say!
Funded Dec 18, 2014We finally have our PA system for our classroom! The students and I were so excited when the boxes came. At first, they were a little nervous to use the microphones. They were not used to hearing their voices amplified. Slowly, as each student started to experiment with the mics, the hands started to pop up to use it next. Now, after a month or so of using it, the kids are so used to it. Once they see that handheld microphone come out, the eager hands start flying up.
The participation has increased dramatically in my class during discussions. Children who weren't raising their hands so much before are now doing so quite often. Kids who were participating, whose voices were soft and low, now can be heard by all. What a difference it has made in our learning environment. Soon, we will invite other classes to come see my students perform "The Selfish Giant" in our classroom. This PA system will make it possible to put on a great performance!
Lastly, this system has helped in the delivery of my instruction. Every child in the classroom can hear me loud and clear. I don't have to repeat myself! My students who are English language learners can hear the proper modeling of language. They can now hear all the sounds in the words as I speak. This is very important. Many of my students omit sounds when they're writing or speaking because they don't hear the correct pronunciation. This system will help those students catch the sounds!
All this wouldn't be possible without your generous donations. Thank you so much for caring and sharing!”

Let's Take a Magic Carpet Ride & Discover a Whole New World!
Funded Apr 12, 2012Thank you all for helping us fund our project for a new rug. We were very fortunate to get our classroom's floor redone by replacing the dirty carpet with clean tile. However, our group of 24 students needed a large rug to sit on. We use the floor for a variety of activities, from blending words and sitting for read-alouds to playing indoor games. The students have enjoyed our new high-quality, long-lasting rug that allows all of them to sit comfortably.
We are so thankful to you, the donors, in helping to create a clean, inviting, cozy classroom for all of us!”

Seeing is Believing...Making our Projects Come to Life!
Funded Jan 14, 2012Thank you for helping us get our printer and iPad cord! We are now able to make the post of our iPad. We have been using the iPad as an important instructional tool and are now able to print anything we want from it! Having a printer that allows the students to get hard copies of the things they can find and create on mobile devices has been an exciting way to learn. On the board, we keep a list of topics we want to learn more about. When time allows, we are now able to look these topics up on the iPad and project the information on our white screen. Thanks to the projection cord funded through DonorsChoose, all the students can view the information now. The students love researching topics now!
We can't thank you enough!”

Funded Jan 14, 2012Thank you so much for enriching our science lessons this year! My students love science! With the kits that we received, the they were able to study the ladybug and butterfly life cycles. They were also able to learn about the ecological benefits and behaviors of these insects as well as ants and praying mantises.
The students thoroughly enjoyed learning about these animals through a hands-on approach. They enjoyed the observation process that allowed them to witness these insect behaviors first hand. They have been able to connect their knowledge to the other topics we have been learning about. I know they will remember their science experiences as one of the highlights of their 2nd grade year!”

Funded Jan 28, 2012Thank you so much for helping us reach this goal! Our storage unit is amazing! Now, all our math manipulatives are neatly organized and easy to access. Also, the students' artwork is stored in this storage cabinet, as well as all our paper. Our games, toys, and puzzles all fit too!
The students love the new building materials we've received too! Thanks to you, we now have magnetic blocks, Legos, and snapping people climbers. The students love them all!
