  • Kindergarteners Are Getting the Financials! Oh My!

    Funded Oct 6, 2021

Thank you so much for choosing my classroom and fully funding my "Kindergarteners Are Getting the Financials! Oh My!" project request! I am so excited to start teaching my kindergarteners about finances, using cash registers, fake money, and manipulatives! My students will learn math, language arts, and social studies while having fun and learning how to buy and sell. These life lessons they will not soon forget.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Klein

  • Learning Our 100 Sight Words Through Writing!

    Funded Jan 18, 2018

I am so elated that you chose my first-grade classroom's project request "Learning Our 100 Sight Words Through Writing!". We truly needed these resources as our students have very limited resources at home. We also needed an effective approach to teach sight words and the writing practice books funded proved to be an excellent resource. There has been a marked improvement within weeks of using these writing practice booklets. We truly appreciate all you have done for our students and our school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Klein

  • Kindergarteners Learning With Chromebooks!

    Funded Jan 18, 2018

Thank you so much for the Chromebooks! In terms of technology, my classroom was in dire need and you saved the day. Just last week, the IT person came and connected us to our school's WiFi. The children were so anxious to start using them that I had to rotate all the groups in a way that everyone had an opportunity to use the Chromebooks.

You have helped me furnish my classroom with the technology that was so desperately needed. I cannot thank you enough. We can now have group reading centers using these Chromebooks, which would be exciting and new for my kindergarteners. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Klein

I teach kindergarten at a Head Start through 5th-grade school in North Miami. Most of my students are high-poverty and have limited technology at home. After Hurricane Irma, the financial situation for most of our students became even worse and now, we have started welcoming students who were displaced due to Hurricane Maria. For most of our students, Internet access and the use of computers are a luxury they do not have at home. As we are embarking to be designated officially a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) school, technology has now infiltrated every aspect of how our classes are taught. After Hurricane Irma struck, most students came back with fewer supplies and less access to the tools they need to be successful. Even with limited resources, using technology in my classroom has proved to be quite a success as the students learn quickly, discover and enjoy every lesson while developing skills. I am requesting five touchscreen Chromebooks, which will be used for STEAM activities. My students now need to experience actually utilizing technology on a personal "one on one" basis, to enhance their language skills as well as computer skills. Currently, my classroom is very limited in terms of technology/computers. In fact, there is only a teacher's workstation and a few outdated computers in my classroom. We are aiming to become a STEAM school in the upcoming school year and having our students get direct access to technology will prepare them. I am also requesting headphones so that the children can work independently during center time, without distractions.
