Flexible Seating for Math Class
Funded Sep 20, 2023Thank you so much for supporting the purchase of this high-quality furniture for our classroom. As you can see in the photos, students are using the lap desks and cushions every day for many engaging and collaborative math tasks.
These activities include playing math card games and dice games to develop fluency, counting collections to develop number sense and place value understanding, and solving story problems.
These floor desks replaced cheaper alternatives that had already broken by 2 months in to the school year. We are very grateful to have these sturdy floor desks and comfortable cushions.”

2nd and 3rd Grade Math Talk
Funded Jun 9, 2023Thank you so much for funding these materials that we use every day.
The dry erase number boards have been especially valuable-- students use them to skip count, count on, and in many other ways that support their problem solving and their developing sense of place value.
The large magnetic money is another favorite. Students have been engaging with money through our "Store Days", and our work with money has supported students' confidence in using benchmark numbers to solve problems efficiently.”

Funded Jun 7, 2023We started "Counting Collections" from the very first day of school, and have been continuing since then. Kids reliably ask every day if we will be doing Counting Collections, and are disappointed if the answer is no.
Using the materials you purchased for students to group their counting collections, second graders are working on place value concepts (tens and ones), and third graders are working on the relationship between multiplication and addition. These hands-on experiences build deep understanding that support more abstract problem solving.
We are so thankful for your support!”

Funded Apr 4, 2022Thank you for stepping in to support the arts in public schools! I had requested clay for my students at the beginning of the school year, but when it still hadn't arrived my March of that year, I turned to Donors Choose and to you for help to make sure that the students would not leave preschool without getting the opportunity to play and work with clay.
They loved getting their hands messy experimenting with clay, water, and clay tools, and everyone enjoyed making pinch pots to take home. One student (now a kindergartener) came back to visit our new class the other day and demonstrated how to make a pinch pot.
Here's to another year of high-quality public school early childhood education, including access to high quality art materials, thanks in part to support from community members like you!”

Outdoor Water Play
Funded Sep 23, 2021Our water system is a centerpiece of our daily outdoor play! It continues to inspire delight, discovery, and teamwork every day. The kids love watching the water flow and running up and down to collect, divert, and redistribute the water. They have come up with a variety of ways to use the system, including rolling small balls on days that are too cold for water play.
I love how it welcomes and stands up to dirt, mud, and mess! Because it is so portable, the kids can easily redesign the flow of water and we can move the system to different areas in the Forest.
From the moment we set it up, our school Forest has looked more like a true outdoor classroom. Included with pictures of my class's rich play you'll find 4th graders at work and Kindergarten students using the water play system to learn about the water cycle.”

Funded Aug 13, 2019Thank you so much for contributing to supplies that we've been using every day, all school year long. These materials spark students' creativity, and we can use them in so many ways.
This week, we are using rocks, (fake) acorns, and gems to make stories with addition. Students take pictures of their work and then write equations using a tablet, then upload the finished product onto an app where their families can see and comment.
We've also been using little log pieces with letters written on them to practice making and reading simple words.
Thank you again for your support!”
