Let's Go Fishing!
Funded Sep 19, 2019I waited a while before posting our thank you because the kids wanted you to see our tank filled with fish. The tank came, the kids set it up, and then waited for the eggs to arrive. The eggs came and the kids followed the directions to a tee. They hatched! Everyone was so excited! Then we were told that the room we were using needed extensive repair work and we had to move the whole set-up to our green house. We tried our best, but all our little hatch-lings died. The kids were devastated. So, we contacted the fish folks and they kindly sent us a new batch of eggs. You can see by the happy faces that fish have hatched and are growling nicely! The kids have learned patience, determination, trouble-shooting and problem solving. They are learning about the life cycle of the trout, and eventually, we will transition into the role of the trout in our PA ecosystem. We are very grateful for thoughtful contributions to our project!”

Urban Agriculture
Funded Sep 1, 2019The kids tore into the boxes like Christmas morning! They immediately began to delegate responsibilities, work together, and assemble the materials. They read the directions, did some trouble shooting, and then debated the best organizational flow for the animal care room. The animals are not even here yet and some of the goals for the year are already blossoming thanks to your generosity!
I have written a grant for some of the animals, and we have had a few offers of animal donations. Once the animals arrive, lessons of anatomy, physiology, care, and appreciation for other beings begins! We will begin with the classification system as a scaffolding for where everything fits into the living puzzle of Earth. We will then learn the life cycle of birds, hatch our quail eggs, and let our adventure into the 1st of four vertebrate classes begin!
Once we've studied birds and learn to care for our quail, we we learn about reptiles, followed by mammals, and fish. They are clamoring to name all of the creatures and have taken great care to make all of their accommodations comfy and exciting. They already are showing great respect, responsibility, and care and we've only just begun.”
