Sensory integration is a key part of a successful day for a student with autism or a sensory processing disorder. Having a swing in the classroom, sensory tables, adaptive seating, and manipulatives will give my students a variety of options to choose from. The sensory sand/water table, swing, balance yoga balls, stools, fidget bands and manipulatives that I have chosen will give my students not only a break from academic work, but also help them learn more about their bodies, and how to process and interpret the world around them. Sensory play is important because it helps students learn, builds language, promotes social interaction with peers, and also helps develop stronger motor skills. The items I have chosen will be used to help my students throughout the day as they become overstimulated, need a sensory break, and to help with social interaction.
