I teach some of the smartest, wittiest, brightest students you'll ever meet. I teach in a Chicago public high school, and needless to say, the funds aren't available to order new books, but I don't want that to hinder my students' ability to read great books! I've got some book-lovers in my classes, but I also have many non-readers. Academically, they're far behind their peers. They need a book that's going to draw them in, that's going to speak to them in a way that maybe they haven't experienced before, and that's going to make them want to read more. They just haven't had the opportunity yet to discover the magic that a book holds. They're freshmen in high school, and they are still naive and excited about high school, and I want to give them the opportunity to enjoy reading while being challenged academically.
