  • Start the Year Off With a Good Book!

    Funded May 9, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting literacy for my students. I can’t wait to tell the students the project is funded and the books are on their way to our classroom. I truly believe some of the titles in this order will inspire my reluctant readers to pick up a new book. Thank you again!”

  • Staying Connected During Distance Learning

    Funded May 5, 2020

Where do I even begin to describe that wonderful chaotic learning experience this year has been? Back in March of 2020 I learned that my school would be going virtual for the next two weeks. Here we are over a year later having learned many lessons along the way.

I've learned that learning can happen anywhere. I've learned that I don't have to physically be in the same room with my students to offer them a positive educational experience. I've learned that with a little patience and some time teachers can truly work miracles.

Your donations have allowed me the ability to connect with my students, even when we couldn't be together in person. The wifi extender has been a life saver this year. Prior to receiving this item, I was stuck in a very cramped small windowless room in my house. The extender has allowed me to set up a home classroom. The tripod and extension cord have helped with this as well. Being 100% virtual I am constantly using three devices (two laptops and an iPad) as I teach my classes.

While I can't wait to be back with my students in person, I would still consider this year a success.

I am truly grateful for your continued support of children's education!”

  • Help Us Score Some Books!

    Funded Dec 5, 2019

Thank you so much for helping build our classroom library. The new books have been a great addition and have already been checked out multiple times.

Adding sport's themed books has increased interest in reading for many students. I've noticed that a few students have gotten a book from the library for the first time this year. One of the best ways to increase reading levels is for students to read more. My students have definitely been reading more since we've received the new books.

Both myself and my students are extremely grateful for the new books, and we can't wait to continue building our library.”

  • Special Technology for Special Students!

    Funded Jun 30, 2019

Thank you for donating to our classroom. The iPad has been an amazing resource to use with students. So far I have started by using the iPad in our center rotations to reinforce skills in struggling learners.

The students can use the iPad to review grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure. It makes reviewing topics fun and engaging. Students love being able to use the technology in the classroom and frequently ask to use the iPad more often.

As my first class has done so well using the iPad to enhance their learning I have plans to begin using it in my other classes as well. Overall the iPad has been a great success in my classroom.”

  • A+ Anchor Charts!

    Funded Aug 28, 2019

I struggle to put into words how much the anchor charts and easel have impacted our classroom as the change has been extraordinary. To begin, the easel allows for quick and interactive notes to be taken throughout the class. Students are able to get up and find exactly what they need and add to response questions.

The anchor charts have also featured prominently in the classroom since the project has been funded. Every time I introduce a new topic I debut an anchor chart that goes along with it. Students in every class get up throughout the day to refer to the anchor charts. They have become a huge aid to student learning.

I was also able to share the supplies with the three other 6th grade teachers. Now every teacher can create their own relevant and specific anchor charts for the classrooms.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gallagher

  • Help Multiply Our Math Library!

    Funded Jul 28, 2019

Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. The books have made a huge impact on our entire 6th grade. The students were so excited to receive the books and they have been checked out of the library multiples times already.

There are many different ability levels across 6th grade and these books have helped struggling students immensely. I am able to work with small groups of students using these texts to help students to understand concepts they have struggled with. Reviewing basic math skills helps build ability and confidence.

Finally, having books to review math skills makes a huge difference to students who are not "number headed". For these students having math concepts explained in a story is the difference between understanding and feeling lost. We are so grateful for these books!”

  • Middle School Paper Problems

    Funded Dec 8, 2018

Thank you very much for your generous donation to our classroom.

While a printer may not seem like it would make a big impact to some it has made a huge impact on our classroom. For much of this past school year the printers and copy machines at our school have been broken more often then they've worked. This has greatly impacted how the students learn. The new printer has enabled me to print resources for my students every day. I am also now able to print individualized notes and activities for students with special education plans and English language learners.

I'm still searching for a home in my classroom for the new maps in my classroom but I have already planned many ways to include them in my teaching. Giving students a visual as to where things are in the world greatly increases their understanding of the content.

Finally, we are also very excited to use the poster boards for projects in our classroom. Students are able to use the poster boards to collaborate on group assignments where they really have the opportunity to demonstrate hands on learning.

This project has made a great impact on our classroom this year. Thank you for all that you do!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gallagher

  • Hey Guys-We Need School Supplies!

    Funded Sep 7, 2018

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. I can say for sure that these past few months have been more clean and creative in my classroom.

It has definitely been a relief to have tissues and Lysol wipes available as the season of colds is upon us. Students don't have to worry about sneezing into their sleeve when we have tissues readily available. We have also made it part of our routine to wipe the desks at the end of each day to prevent the spread of any germs.

Many of the items we received also allowed students the freedom to create and develop in the classroom. I put the art supplies I received out in my classroom and my students have not stopped surprising me with the projects they have created. Students are building and physically demonstrating what they have learned.

While glue, scissors, paper, crayons, and color pencils may not seem like much in the hands of a student they can be used to make amazing creations. This project has allowed my students to have access to the supplies they need to succeed in Middle School.”

  • Building An Interactive Classroom!

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

Thank you very much for the generous support to our classroom. You have greatly improved the learning experience for the students. Our new table has served multiple functions already. Students have the option to move to the small table to work independently or to cool down when they are upset.

The dry erase boards make reviewing information a breeze. Students are much more engaged with the white boards as they are quickly able to write and engage in the activity. I am personally very thankful for the storage cart as it has greatly helped organize the classroom. Students know exactly where to put assignments on the cart to avoid any mess or lost work.

Your support will continue to improve our classroom well into the future. Thank you for caring about the education of our middle school students!”

  • Personalized Resources For ALL My Students

    Funded Jan 14, 2018

Life is just a little more colorful and bright in our classroom thanks to Donor's Choose. From the day the new supplies arrived students were excited to open the boxes and see what was inside (and getting excitement from a middle school student is already an accomplishment). Everything from the large Cricut machine to the smaller items like pencils and highlighters has made a significant impact on my classroom and helped to improve student learning.

Thanks to our new Cricut machine I have been able to create many different types of resources for my students. To begin I have been able to provide students with many new reading guides that they may take with them to all of their classes. Reading is a skill that many of my students struggle with. To see a student use a reading guide or skill card to independently complete an assignment they previously could not do is extremely rewarding.

The Cricut machine has also served to physically improve the atmosphere of my classroom as well. My students and I were able to design a Peace Corner to give students a safe place to de-escalate after a conflict or difficult experience. Using the vinyl setting on the Cricut machine I created positive affirmation decals to decorate our Peace Corner.

Finally, Donor's Choose project has also brought a greater sense of independence to my classroom. Students often lack the basic supplies they need during the day. Thanks to Donor's Choose I now have a fully stocked supply station for students to borrow from if needed. A student no longer needs to feel embarrassed or cause a disruption if they need a pencil or a highlighter. They may simply walk to the supply table and take what they need.

My students and I are both extremely grateful for all of the donations we have received. Thank you Donor's Choose!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gallagher

Learning materials designed specifically for students’ needs are essential for fostering successful student-driven learning. I am requesting a Cricut Air machine and related materials as they will enable me to easily create personalized flash cards and study charts for each of the 95 students that I teach daily. In the past, I have spent countless hours making these resources by hand for students. The Cricut Air machine will cut down on this time and allow me to have more time and energy to plan engaging activities for students. A paper cutter will also cut down on the time that it takes to prepare these materials. Chart paper will allow me to create reference charts and have a place to continue teaching when the Smartboard (as it often does) malfunctions. Reams of copy paper are necessary to print many of the primary source documents that my students use in class every day. Finally, pencils and highlighters are basic tools needed when working in any classroom, especially when using primary sources.
