ESPorts is one of the fastest growing High School sports in the country! We love it because it provides students who would usually not be involved in a team or have the chance to represent their school, with the opportunity to shine and develop social and leadership skills. Many students on our team have special needs or medical conditions which would usually put them on the periphery at a typical High School.
After the COVID craziness of the past two years, we are seeing Esports and social gaming as an incredible opportunity for students who would otherwise struggle to find their place at school. When we started the BHS Esports team we were hoping to get 20 students, but within a week we had over 60 kids on the team competing in official leagues and tournaments on behalf of our school.
Due to the incredible response to our ESports program, we need more consoles so that everyone can have a chance to play. With over 60 kids on the team, it can be very difficult to make sure everyone gets a chance to play during our afterschool practices. In addition, many of our students come in during lunch and play together as a way to make friends and have a place to belong.
