Alternate Learning
Funded Feb 8, 2018Having this new resource in the classroom has been a dramatic change for learning. Students are able to have an alternate way of learning by being given the opportunity to sit in another area in the classroom that is not traditional and rote seating. Students freely sit in the new space to work collaboratively or independently. At the moment, the carpet area is being used to learn during English Language Arts and have discussions. Also, students maximize this area to participate in Reader's Theater. Students are able to act out their script and practice plays as if a real stage. When the students first saw the material, they were super excited and could not wait to sit in another part of the classroom. Students often work in pairs to discuss and work collaboratively, so, their motivation levels increased because of this new area rug. The next steps for the students is to continue and complete a research study on our country of study- the Dominican Republic, in which groups of students work as expert groups and learn all about the country, culture, and important facts. Our school is an International Baccalaureate (IB) school that develops students into globally diverse minded individuals and learning about other parts of the world is an exciting project for students to participate in. Thank you again for your support in helping students grow and learn. You are greatly appreciated.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018It has been a such a great blessing having the dividers and manipulative clocks in our classroom. One way that our class is using the dividers is for test taking preparation. We are currently underway for state testing and the dividers have provided a classroom environment that is focused and prepared. Another way our class is using the new clocks is utilizing them to help review telling time. Students have been able to manipulate hands on the clock and get a better understanding of minute to hour.
The students reactions to the dividers was excited and motivated to work since they would have a personal cubicle. One student stated that using the divider helped them get ready and reduced distractions. When the students began using the clocks, they manipulated time with eagerness. Prior to receiving the manipulative, students relied on picture clocks and the classroom clock. This resource has made telling time more fun.
The next steps for the students is to continue using the dividers to help lower the amount of distractions when working during workshop, independent work, and state testing for the month of May. Also, students will be able to use the clocks to review telling time and also make up math problems for others to solve.”
