I teach 5th grade. My students come from a variety of backgrounds with a variety of skills and knowledge. In my classroom I like to do a lot of hands-on learning, and I enjoy having my students work in groups for projects so that they can learn how to work with others, communicate better, and problem solve. In Language Arts, I like to use a lot of outside resources and my Language Arts units include, "Playing with Language," "Renaissance Thinking," "Clues to a Culture," "America in Conflict," and "Exploration: Real and Imagined." Students write several papers, do Literature Circles, and various other activities related to these themes. For Science, we do a variety of STEAM projects related to our science units which include Physical Science, Life Science, Earth's Systems, and Space Systems. In Social Studies and math we do several activities related to the content standards for Michigan and CCSS.
