My students want to take on the project of painting the inside of a house that is being transformed into a shelter for the homeless in their community. This project began from introduction into Government and identifying the duties and responsibilities of becoming a good citizen. The painting of the interior of the house is an awesome way for my students to have the chance to bring real beauty to the house as well as protection to its surfaces which are in desperate need of coating. The donations to this project will give my students a real sense of giving back to the community and an understanding of the role compassion plays in reaching out to others. In addition to that, these students will be gaining skills that can actually serve them in the future whether as employees, business owners or homeowners. I feel that having seniors in high school take part in this project is especially beneficial because they will soon be entering our society as adult citizens. They will carry a sense of giving back into the next phase of their life.
