My classroom is a mostly center based room. The students rotate through four centers daily in math and two centers daily in reading. One of these centers is "Independent Learning." In this center the students are required to work on differentiated lessons on computer programs. Each child's lesson differs based on their current academic levels. With every student in the center working on different lessons, it becomes difficult for them to focus when they are hearing all of the other computers at the same time. Having sturdy, reliable headphones will help eliminate this challenge in the classroom. Center based learning creates a hands-on, minds-on classroom. Another one of my centers is Peer-to-Peer Discourse. In this center, students are completing group work, games or projects all the while using accountable talk. One way we do this is through task based review games. Most of our classroom math games are hand-made and printed through a variety of websites. It would be amazing to have some other options of games that students could work on and discuss pre-made and ready to go. During our "Teacher Directed" group, the students work on skills that they have not mastered. One way we do this is to use dry erase markers and boards to practice. I have found that students are much more willing to practice and learn new skills on dry erase boards when it is very easy to erase and try again in a less permanent way, such as paper/pencil/workbook. Please help us get these materials to make our classroom more well-rounded and better focused. Thank you!
