My students are hard workers and passionate about learning. However, many of my students with autism have a hard time generalizing these skills from activities in the classroom to applying at home or in the community. The folders, crayons, markers, and other materials I've selected will create a critical home-school line of communication that will turn practiced classroom skills into meaningful social and language connections with their families. The fantastically supportive families will have a way to communicate with me (the speech-language pathologist), the classroom teacher, the occupational therapist, and/or the social worker that supports their student, and activities can be sent back and forth. My students often work best with hands-on activities which means velcro, laminated pages, and dry erase markers with page protectors make these not only multi-sensory learning tools but also efficient for re-use as the students continue to develop their skills and move on to more advanced material.
