My Spanish-speaking students desperately need to improve their reading skills. But how do we provide reading opportunities that are age-appropriate and engaging? Our library carries very few books in Spanish and access to technology is limited (15 world language teachers share one 30-chromebook cart).
I would love to provide my students the opportunity to explore and choose texts to read on a rotating basis. My idea is to create a Chromebook station in my classroom, which students will access for independent reading time. They will write reflections, questions, wonders, connections, etc. about what they are reading. I plan on using my students' writing to inform my instruction and help them become better writers and critical thinkers.
