  • Music Time With Mr. Cooper

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

My students LOVE Music time with Mr. Cooper! Especially in these days of Distance Learning, it is wonderful to have a weekly activity that they can count on and look forward to. Mr. Cooper has a genuine connection and rapport with the students.

A highlight for me is how he gets the students to actively engage and sing and dance with him. A highlight for the students was when Mr. Cooper connected our singing of "This Land is Your Land" and "America the Beautiful" to the same songs being sung at the Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 20th by Jennifer Lopez. He also connected our singing of "We shall Overcome" to the song being sung at many Martin Luther King events including the "I have a Dream Speech" event in DC in 1968.

Lasting impacts include a love of music and dance, as well as a feeling of being connected to history.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Student

All of the first grade students in my school will learn about music, songwriting, rhymes and rhythm with a weekly music program. Mr. Cooper will see each class for thirty minutes each week to sing songs and play music games. The songs and props are a great way for my English language learners to learn English. All of the students learn from songs about math, good citizenship, science, geography, history and more. In the song "Words to Live By" they learn about sharing, helping people, and taking turns. Songs like "Circle of Seeds", "The Biggest Tree", and "Bugs, Bugs, Bugs" reinforce our science curriculum. Some songs are just fun. Many students have said that Mr. Cooper Time is the best time of the week!
