Having a copy of The Outsiders for each one of my students would be amazing! Not only is it a classic story with an fantastic theme and characters that transcend time, it is enjoyable and interesting to read. It will definitely grab my students' attention and leave them wanting more! As we all know, technology plays a huge part in our middle school students' lives. It seems that they all have a smart phone and tons of apps and social media sites to distract them at every opportunity. I want to foster in my middle school students the love of a good paperback book that has a timeless theme, relatable characters, and a just a really great story! This class set of The Outsiders will help my students with literacy, writing, and collaboration skills (as they discuss the book in novel teams), and leave a lasting impression of the power of literature.
