Science World Magazines! Bringing the World of Science to Life!

Your willingness to provide my students with the gift of Science World magazines has opened up their love for science in a way I never imagined. My heart is full and overwhelmed by your level of generosity.
I find the students just pick up the magazines to read during SSR time each day because they are interested in the topics. We have used the magazines to help us bring to life the various science concepts that we teach as they can relate to the real-life articles that show the students how impactful science is in their everyday life.
Recently, we were studying the Galapagos islands and Charles Darwin and the recent issue had a wonderful article about the Galapagos and how they are bringing back an extinct species of iguana. Talk about relevant, it was awesome to be able to show them the beautiful pictures of the island and have them connect the theory of Natural Selection with a relevant article found in the magazine. This is exactly why I wanted to get them so we could have those types of moments to teach the students about the content.”

Science content vocabulary can be a challenge for students especially when English is not their first language. The use of the Science World magazines will allow the students to read about science in a style that is not like a textbook but provides them the scientific information. The beauty of using these magazines is that it provides articles and information in the three content areas taught in middle science which is Earth and Space science, Life Science and Physical science which helps to expose children to all three content areas that some have not had before. Additionally, there are online resources that can be used as the students are reading the articles that will help to enhance their understanding. Reading opens the doors to the world. Many of my students have English as their second language and struggle with reading content-specific texts because of their reading levels. I want to open the door to the world of science that is not just in a textbook but is applicable to them in real life. Science connects us on a global scale makes the world of science real.
