Today's world is a challenge for both student and teacher alike. It seems as though bullying is cool, hate speech is accepted, and finding common ground is not an option. But I feel the classroom is the best place to change that. Students of all ages can and need to begin to have meaningful conversations to break down stereotypes and misconceptions that are dividing our country right now. Using purposeful, relevant, and diverse literature in the classroom can lead to a climate of respect and understanding. My goal is to empower my students to see life from multiple perspectives and to be the change they want to see in the world.
