Should this project be fully funded my students will have a space within the room to go to should they need to calm down. This area will have pillows, calming sensory toys and lights. Students who are upset or close to a tantrum will be able to use these resources to help them calm and refocus. Many of my students are on the Autism Spectrum or have sensory needs related to their disabilities. Part of their curriculum involves learning to self-regulate and to handle their emotions in a safe and productive manner. When students are competent with these skills, they are able to learn more productively and are able to gain greater access to the school environment. These are lifelong skills.
