Engaging students in writing is a struggle for most educators because students believe that writing is boring, it takes too long, and it can be overwhelming. By introducing Legos into the writing process, teachers will be able to engage all students into the world of writing. For beginning students, they can build letters using blocks, build words as an alternative to writing spelling words, and use pre-written words on the blocks to build sentences. As students gain language acquisition and reading fluency, they can begin using Legos to summarize a story, create writing prompts by building a scene, and create their own graphic novels by using the Legos and a camera. These materials will allow my all of my students to access to the world of writing. I am excited to watch them create and write about what interests them.
