I am requesting materials to create take home task boxes for my students. We utilize task box systems in the classroom to learn a variety of skills - reading, writing, math, social skills, life skills, and vocational skills. TEACCH Autism strategies, especially task boxes, have helped my students learn and grow.
Task boxes help build independence in learning tasks! My students struggle with worksheets and can't complete them without assistance from adults in the classroom. Task boxes are engaging and motivating for my students! They love being able to touch, feel, and move the items around. These hands-on learning tasks can be sent home and their parents will see just what their students can do!
The items I'm requesting will be used to make the task boxes:
- Magic Board Printing Cards, Magic Boards, Tweezer Tongs Sorting, Beads/Patterns, and Pattern Blocks/Design Cards will help students work on their fine-motor and visual perception skills, as well as increase their handwriting and academics.
- The 100 Sight-Word talking boards will increase reading skills and promote language by hearing the word and then saying the word.
- The self-checking magnetic math cards, Squeeze/Scoop/Count Ice Cream Shop, and Peg Number Boards will reinforce number concepts in a hands-on way.
- The take home backpacks will be used to transport materials between home and school.
Many of the activities will create 2-3 tasks so multiple students will be able to take similar task boxes home.
