Replace and Renew!
Funded Aug 15, 2024The Donors Choose project has had a profound and transformative impact on my 4th grade classroom, providing us with a wealth of new resources and materials that have truly revolutionized the learning experience for my students. When the highly anticipated package first arrived, the children were absolutely bursting with excitement, eagerly tearing into the boxes like it was Christmas morning all over again to reveal the incredible treasure trove that lay within. As they uncovered the colorful new pillows, backrests, lap boards, standing desks, and plush carpeting, their faces simply lit up with pure joy and wonder. The students immediately started buzzing with unbridled enthusiasm, thrilled to have such a diverse array of comfortable, flexible seating and work options that would allow them to choose the setup that best suited their individual learning needs and preferences.
This project has been an absolute game-changer, especially for me as a teacher with a limited personal income who is also caring for a disabled husband with Kennedy's Disease (similar to ALS) and a special needs son, Cooper, who had a tumor the size of an orange in his brain back in 2019. Making this transformative classroom upgrade a reality was nothing short of a dream come true, and I've already noticed a remarkable difference in my students' work attitudes and overall engagement levels. Now, with the ability to have a voice and choice in where and how they complete their assignments, the children are more focused, motivated, and eager to learn than ever before. The cohesive, aesthetically-pleasing materials have also helped to create a far more organized and inviting classroom environment that truly reflects the vibrant, dynamic community of young learners within it. This generous Donors Choose initiative has been an absolute godsend, and I am endlessly grateful for the profound positive impact it has had on my students' educational journey.”

Funded Dec 3, 2019I want to say thank you again for all of your donations and support for Getting Flexible in the Classroom. Flexible seating choices are important to any student. Having voice and choice in where and how students sit gives kids the sense that they have some control over their learning environment. The first day that I had the cozy floor seats and lap desks out, my students were so excited to try them, we had to make a sign-up sheet!
Now we have a permanent sign-up for the kids to take turns being able to sit in the cozy floor seats. They are very respectful of each other in taking turns and are so happy when it is their turn to be on the floor at the board. Even when it is not their turn, but need to be close to the board, friends are good about sharing!
Our class is getting ready for two big projects, a 3D solar system project and a famous person (mostly from Virginia History )research and presentation project. Having flexible floor seating is more comfortable for some students as they really stretch out their creative thinking brains! Again, thank you so much for all of the donations!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Stuart
