Flexible Seating My students need alternative seating including wobble stools and portable lap desks in the classroom to help them find a space that works best for their learning. My students come to school eager to learn each day. They thrive in a learning community enriched with engaging activities and work hard to learn everything they can. Using flexible seating in the classroom would give each student the chance to have a successful school year. My students work extremely hard and take pride in their school work and their school, however, many fourth grade students have spent the past four school years sitting in their cold, hard, seats while being expected to pay attention, complete their work, and learn new concepts. We know that every student in the classroom has preferred places to work like on a couch or on a stool, but in a traditional classroom, there are no options for students who would rather stand up or sit on the floor to work. In my classroom, I want to be able to offer my students seating choices which would allow them to pick a spot that best suits their learning needs in order to reach their highest potential. Sitting in a classroom for 6 hours a day on a hard chair in front of a cold desk is not the most ideal place to work for student learning. The new furniture and equipment would give my students a variety of options to work besides on the hard chair they are use to. Many of my students would be able to move around and change their seat choice based on the activity we are doing in classroom.
