  • Technology for English Language Learners to Communicate, Learn, and Grow

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donations. I am so grateful for your support, and I cannot wait to share with you the impact the iPads will have in supporting the English language learners in my classroom. The iPads will be put to good use as soon as they arrive. I already have lessons planned in which students will utilize them.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gervais

  • Awesome Adventures in an Autism Classroom

    Funded Feb 7, 2018

Thank you so much for supporting our classroom. We are a small class with many needs. The kindles have allowed students who are unable to speak or write to communicate, create artwork, and to type. We have printed work completed on the Kindles on our new color printer. The printer has also been used to create much needed color visuals which are so important for helping students follow schedules and to reinforce positive behaviors. Access to technology is limited in my school, so your donation has made a significant impact on our classroom.

The bean bags are used daily during free time by students to relax and curl up on to read on the kindle. The chair cushion and table bands are also providing much needed sensory input during group instruction. Students are better able to focus on tasks, because they have the input they need.

Please know you have made a difference, and I am so grateful for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gervais

  • Creating Flexible Bodies and Minds in an Adaptive Gym Class

    Funded Feb 16, 2018

The students were so excited when the boxes arrived, "wowwy, wow, wow," was one exclamation, and "we have fun things for gym, yeay," was another. I wish I could have captured the excitement in their eyes, smiles, and voices for you. As soon as we unpacked our treasure, we rolled out our yoga mats and began to stretch and relax. Having a smart board in my classroom is making yoga a lot of fun. The students are able to follow along making some impressive yoga poses. I know we are going to get a lot of use out of our mats.

Today, the students used the sit on scooters and hoppity balls to move themselves around the gym. This gym equipment has increased the activity level of some of the students, and they are engaged in exercising and using their bodies. After gym class, their bodies are calmer, and they are more focused on their academic work.

We are thankful for your generosity, and we will not forget your kindness. You have made a difference in the lives of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gervais

The color printer will be used to create color pec boards. Daily visual schedules for students will be created that students can interact with, and refer to. These visuals also help when changes in schedules need to be made. Adaptive books will also be made using the color printer. This will provide students with greater access to story and informational books and provide ways for non-verbal students to show their understanding.Students will use Kindles to listen to audiobooks, access apps that help develop phonemic awareness and fine motor skills. Technology and visuals are key to assisting in the development of both academic and behavioral skills in my classroom. Other items including fidget toys, chair bands, and seat cushions aid in providing sensory input students need in order to be attentive and present to learn. Each student is unique in the classroom, and we are constantly updating visual material and creating new individualized curriculum to ensure students can reach their potential. Providing visuals in color is not only visually appealing, it engages the students, and it helps them make connections to the World they live in.
