  • Literacy For All

    Funded Mar 5, 2023

Thank you for thinking of my classroom and donating! The materials that were purchased had greatly supported my students. My English Language Learners were so engaged and interested when working with the activity cards. I could see their motivation and excitement for learning grow.

All the students benefited from practicing with the magnet letters. They loved sounding out new words and then blending them together. We were able to focus on short vowel words. I instantly saw improvement thanks to your support.

After practicing with the magnetic letters they felt confident reading the words in the short vowel books. They were so excited that they could read the books that were on their level.

    Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Erman

  • Starting the Year With Everything We Need (Thanks to You!)

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Our class definitely started the year with everything they needed to be successful and we thank you all for that! The students use their whiteboards and dry erase markers everyday. They love completing their math problems on their whiteboards and luckily have been able to get a new dry erase marker when they need it. Their absolute favorite supplies that they received at the beginning of the year were the markers, crayons, and colored pencils. They love to color in their drawings with their crayons. They get so excited when they get to use their markers to check their own work. The hand soap and paper towels have been a life saver in our room. As you can see, the supplies you helped provide for our classroom have been well used! Thank you again for supporting my classroom!”

  • Drawing Device for Student Learning!

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

Thank you for helping our class learn this unique school year!

Technology has been helping our students learn at a rapid pace. They are now technology experts! Our students are so advanced that they sometimes help the adults. They are now able to make PPT's, Google docs, and even share their screens for presentations.

Using a second monitor for teaching this past year has been a life saver! I was able to see my students on one screen and view their work on the second. Having a second monitor would not have been possible without your generous donations. The drawing tablet allowed me to properly show students how to write cursive letters and it also helped students with their math. After the first time I used the drawing tablet the students said, "oh that is how the letter is supposed to look!" It changed the entire dynamic of the school year.”

  • You Read! We Read! We All Love to READ!

    Funded Dec 2, 2018

Our class really can't thank you enough for your generous donations. The students were so excited to start reading our new class books. They love the books so much that they ask to read them whenever they have a chance.

We took a class vote and the Dear Dragon series books are their favorite! The students love the different stories and they love seeing the character's adventures. Since we received these books, more than seventy-five percent of the students have moved up at least two reading levels. The students spend time carefully reading with a partner and then use reading comprehension cubes to answer questions about the book. Once they feel confident with their book, they then take a quiz using the computer.

Since these books are more geared towards the reading levels in the classroom, I have noticed that the students who were less likely to pick up a book are now eager. They also come over excitingly to tell me they can read the book independently. Having these books has really helped with the reading motivation in our classroom. Again we can't thank you enough for your support!”

  • Bring on the Learning by Using Technology!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Firstly, I want to start off by saying thank you so much for your generous donations! This technology has significantly helped the learning in our classroom. Our class has seen significant gains in reading, math, writing, and social studies/science.

Our class uses the program Raz Kids to help with decoding and reading comprehension. The students have been reading books every day and their confidence has boosted! Students who were having a hard time reading independently are now reading with less support. They are eager to use the iPad's and have become professionals with using the Raz Kids app.

We have also used the iPad's for their research papers. The students choose one topic that they want to learn more about such as a sport or an animal. They use the app EPIC books! to research their topic and take notes for later use. They are so eager to learn as much as they can and the iPad's have made it easier for them to do. They learn different ways of writing books and use those new strategies in their own writing.

Since technology is such an integral part of our society this has helped our students at home as well. Instead of using their phones and tablets for YouTube they turn on Raz Kids or Epic Books! We are forever grateful for your support.”

  • Once a Reader, Always a Reader!

    Funded Jan 25, 2018

We cannot thank you enough for your generous donations. The students kept asking me about you (the donors), what you liked, and which books you enjoyed reading. Since the students have received the new books they have been even more excited about reading. The new books in our library have already had a lot of use. The children have been borrowing them everyday and have been having conversations with their classmates about their favorite parts in the books.

The students still receive guided reading instruction everyday to help them with their reading. The new-guided reading books are in full use! The children who have been taught using the new books have moved up two reading levels. The students keep saying how much cooler the new books are and how the stories are more interesting.

My English Language Learners have especially been enjoying the listening center. They have been listening to books that are at a higher reading level and after they listen to the book they are able to read it! After I teach a lesson the students are able to practice the skills they were just taught. For example, one lesson might focus on characters but lower level books do not have characters. Since the children are listening to higher-level books in the listening center, they can use those books to find the characters as described in the lesson.

Even though the year is winding down, the learning in the classroom is not. Our classroom is working harder than ever and with the new books for our library they are advancing in their reading levels. Our class is thankful that there are people who care about the education of our youth.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Erman

It is extremely important to me to help my students achieve their best. I know first hand the difficulties of growing up in a household that doesn’t speak the native language of the country to which they emigrated. I want to help my students so they grow up feeling confident and ready to be successful. I have learned that it is crucial to provide small reading instruction to students, especially those who are learning the English Language. According to the Center for Public Education, if children cannot read proficiently by the end of third grade, they face daunting hurdles to success in school and beyond. Throughout the day, I meet with children to support them in a small group for reading, writing, and math. In reading, they need books that are developmentally appropriate for their reading level. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student who has been struggling to read light up because they can read a book independently! When students are provided guided reading, they receive a short lesson and then they whisper read. During this time, I work with each student and teach them strategies on how to read unknown words. They LOVE this time since they get to read stories and then talk about it with their classmates. Unfortunately, I have exhausted the resources at my current school which is why I am in need of more guided reading books. Lastly, my students would benefit from books on CD. We have a listening center in the classroom where the students listen to a book on a CD and they follow along as it is read to them. This really helps students hear the proper way of reading fluently and allows them to listen to a story uninterrupted.
