Empowering Minds With Sound: Headphones for Academic Growth
Funded Aug 3, 2023Thanks so much for funding this project. For the first time in my career every student in my class has the tools needed to fully participate in electronic learning and testing. Much of the support curriculum target to help address student educational loss during covid uses electronic programs. However, not all of my students had proper headphones to use when they access their lessons. Due to the gift of headphones all of my students are fully engaged in their lessons and making gains towards their goals. Thanks again for funding this important project.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018My students are first graders who are learning to read. Learning to read is just the first step. Step number two is to understand fully what you have read. I noticed that some of my students were having a difficult time learning the weekly vocabulary. I determined that the main challenge was the words and their meaning are taught in isolation in the curriculum. I knew I need to be more intentional in my presentation of vocabulary across all subject areas.
Having my project fully funded provided me the tool to take my instruction to the next level. I started by making self playing keynote slide presentations that show the vocabulary word, it's definition, and a picture that is common to our classroom community. This technique helps the learners connect quickly to the new vocabulary. (This is just one example of the many projects I have planned.)
The MacBook makes it easy to create visual lessons that benefit all the learners in my class.
Additionally some of my students have learning challenges that require repeated instruction in order to commit information to long-term memory. With this technology I am able to play the lesson many times over the course of the day. This is something that I have not been able to do with traditional instruction methods.
I have been surprised by just how effective creating visual supports for my reading instruction has been, and am looking for more ways to use this tool to support my student in other areas of instruction.
I love being a teacher. I want to be the best at my craft because my students deserve it. I love watching my kids learn, and now because of the support I have received from Donors Choose, Ripple, and my other private donors I can have a greater impact on the students I care so deeply about!”
