  • Out of Classroom Experiences

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

Thank you to your generous donation, we were able to purchase clay, glue guns, glue sticks, seeds, and all-purpose feed for our plants once they start to grow for our Gifted class, which allowed us to plant such beautiful flowers and they are growing quickly in the Florida weather with the assistance of the Burpee all-purpose plant food. The students were surprised how quickly the plants that received the plant food in comparison from last year without the plant food.

The second nine weeks started with technology and what better way to teach technology then demonstrating it with hieroglyphs from Egypt, the students enjoyed reading about the development of the writing system and learning how it was considered ancient technology. The papyrus paper gave the experience of paper and how it originated from plants. The terracotta clay helped them to use a popsicle stick to print their names as the Egyptians did, while a few students opted for the papyrus paper.

The glue guns helped to build a base for our clay structures in our architectural design. The clay was too heavy to use by itself to form buildings, therefore with the glue guns students were able to build a frame first and them place the clay on. They enjoyed the experience to comprehend the reason for frames in architectural designs.

The Gifted students could really understand after researching real-world careers in archeology, being a gardener and all the work that it takes it weeding, planting, and using plant food in the garden. As well as the importance of understanding an entire process of what it takes to be an architect and a builder and the proper way to make a frame and not just a design on a blueprint. The "oh my goodness expressions" once they realize at this level of the importance in the career fields. The were able to grasp the importance of learning and the longevity of how education is important in their futures.

In conclusion, I know this type of learning I was only able to give them so far this school year would never have been possible without your generous donation. Please know that your support has made a profound impact on my Gifted students' learning, and I am deeply grateful for your contribution to my classroom. The kindness you have demonstrated helped my students see it is more than a teacher wanting them to be successful but, a community that donated, a person who does not know them but was willing to be an active participant in their education. Your kindness has enriched their learning experience immensely!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Palso

Thank you so much for the Ipads it is the only device that works with the OSMO, my students who are well below grade level enjoy working or as they see it playing on the Ipads. It is use friendly for them to operate and it gives immediate feedback. I have already seen a difference in the phonemic sounds as they put together the words on the ipad and it works with them to sound out the words. Their number fluency is showing improvement also with the use of the ipad to sound out with the students. Look at the ease my students have with the ipads, the ipad is a form of universal technology that students understand especially if their family members have an iphone. I have recommended programs for parents to use as well, parents have mentioned apps I look into for my students.

The ipad is universal not just with the OSMO but, with other programs I am able to download for their academic success. As a teacher it warms my heart to see students gain knowledge in a positive and fun engaging way, thank you for the ipads my students are able to be engaged in rigorous activities with the ipads to achieve higher success! In first grade the foundational skills are important to be able to read the ipads enables me to have my students work on those skills if they are not working directly with me and I am confident they will continue in their success thanks to the assistance of the ipads.”

    With gratitude,

  • Apple Ipads + Osmo = Confident and Successful Students!

    Funded Dec 10, 2017

The OSMO is FANTASTIC, FUN, and ENGAGING !!! Thank you. my below grade level learners are able to have fun with the OSMO letters and numbers. They are showing success with their phonemic sounds and number recognition. The students are also being challenged with the number fluency. It is reassuring for a teacher who lacks the appropriate funding on her own to purchase essential and beneficial technology to ensure her students are successful in a fun and engaging way. My students stay engaged in the rigorous tasks with the OSMO and are having so much fun they ask to work on it at recess. It puts a smile on my face to see their smile when they are in whole group and feel confident enough to raise their hand and be correct because they now have an understanding of the phonemic skills and numbers to participate.

The tangram and coding program I like to use for my on grade level and above grade level students as a thinking challenge when I have to work with my other students. They have fun with the tangram and enjoy to see after they have successfully made the animal or item and it moves. The faces on my students with OSMO is priceless because the students do not have access to this form of engaging technology otherwise. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Palso

My students work hard on iStation, a computer program, but I have seen some students as successful within this computer program. We have Kindles for the students to work on; yet, they are not successful. I have worked with OSMO in another school district and saw the results and how successful the lowest students were. It not only brought them results with reading and math but most importantly, with their confidence for success. I feel this hinders my students. It also provides another use of technology for my students in a technology world. As a Title One school, we have lost funding due to Irma, and are slowly trying to recover both as the school and in their personal lives. When students come to school, it is to ensure success for a future with first grade helping to build this foundation. This technology is crucial to help build a firm foundation for our future doctors, lawyers, mechanics and teachers. I am very excited for this school year and the benefits my students will have this year with your help!
