  • Classroom Management Materials

    Funded Oct 30, 2019

Thank you very much for supporting my classroom at P.S. 149. Both myself and my students appreciate it greatly. The iPad has allowed me to keep track of table points in my classroom. Each week, the winning table gets to collect a prize from the prize box, provided by you as well. This motivates the kids a little more to work hard in class. Seeing their faces light up, as the realize they have won for the week is a joy to my hectic week.

The large digital clock is a great way to keep students on pace. Since it is so large, the students can see it from all over the classroom. It has helped teach them self-regulating skills.

I could not thank you enough for supporting my students.”

    With gratitude,

  • Math Manipulatives

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for donating to our class! The materials have really enriched my students' experiences at school. When my students first saw the materials they were floored! They thought it was Christmas. They love using the whiteboards in class. It is one of their favorite things to do. It is sometimes hard to motivate my students to work, but the whiteboards excite them to get to work. I will continue to use the whiteboards and other materials in my classroom. Once again, thank you very much!”

  • Seeing Life Below the Surface

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you for funding our class project! You should have seen my students' faces when I told them we got microscopes. The first project I did was last May. I did a microscope beginner lesson, since my students have never used microscopes before. First, I taught them the purpose of microscopes- they give us insights to a world that the human eyes could never see. Earlier in the year when we were learning about microorganisms, it was hard for them to visualize this. Next, I taught them how to use the microscope carefully. Then we started looking at the different objects in the starter kit. There were so many things to choose from! We saw bugs, cotton, leafs, dynamite and more! My students were so excited they could not believe it! And middle schoolers do not usually get this excited about school. Lastly, we did microscope sketches of what we observed.

Additionally, my eighth grade students got to use these microscopes when they were preparing for the state tests. There is a component where you have to use a microscope and identify different body parts of insects/bugs. They would have never been able to prepare for the test, if they did but have access to the resources, so thank you for that.

Lastly, my students keep asking me when we will use them again! It has been a hot question since the start of the new school year. This year, I'm am incorporating the microscopes into the curriculum. Now that they know how to use the microscopes, we can use them as a tool to learn more about what we are studying. Once again, thank you so much! It has meant so much to my kids. I would upload Loren photos as a group, but have been having a hard time getting the permission slips back from home.”

  • Bringing Science To Life!

    Funded Dec 21, 2017

Once again, thank you very much for the materials. One of the items you ordered for our class was full size tri-fold boards and poster paper. They loved doing their science projects, which was made possible by these boards. The school wide competition is tomorrow and they are pumped! My class has not previously had these opprurtunites, so your contribution definitely had a great impact on them.

Additionally, when they saw the rock and mineral collection you donated delivered to our classroom they we’re super excited! They can’t wait to dive into that material. We have not gotten there in the science curriculum yet, but will be doing so shortly.

The rock and mineral collection will help my students understand what earth is capable of creating. Especially since living in the city, they haven’t been exposed to many outdoor sites.

Once again thank you very much”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sieredzinski

Currently, I am a new teacher at a renewal school in Harlem and the science resources are bare. My students think science is boring and they have not been exposed to a lot of Food Chain and Earth Science content growing up in the city. Despite their preconceived notions of science, I believe it is one of the most exciting subjects since it is all around us! These materials will help my classroom become more visually appealing and engaging. The anchor charts and posters will help bring the class to life for my visual learners and the hands-on materials like the rock collection, will help my kinetic learners. I also have no science library so I requested some books on the topics we are covering in the next units. These materials will expose all of my students to content they have never seen before. Additionally, I am signing my students up for the New York State Science fair. I am requesting funding for the display boards and materials. With this classroom revamp, I hope to make science invigorating for my students. I want science to come to life in my classroom and give my students the opportunity to learn and take a passion for science, especially since the STEM fields are growing. These materials will help my students learn because you have to be engaged in something before you can truly open your mind to learning it.
