Many students with sensory processing disorders may over-respond to sensation and find clothing, physical contact, light, sound, food, or other sensory input to be unbearable. In order to provide my students with comfort and a release from these symptoms, sensory fidgets are needed for classroom use and therapy use. The requested project items would greatly decrease my students' behaviors as well as allow them to focus their energy on learning tasks! In the past we were given several of the requested sensory items through the school district, however sadly funding is no longer available. Having seen my students with these resources in prior years, I know what a HUGE benefit they are for students in the classroom as well as at home. My students will use these fidgets and sensory balls for calming and alerting, to promote focusing and concentration, decrease stress, increase tactile awareness of fingers/hands, and as a way to keep fidgeting fingers busy! My students love to manipulate play-dough for appropriate sensory output while learning their letters or numbers. Many of our students do not have access to these sensory resources at home as well as at school. These materials will be able to be checked out for students to take home, which allows for better sensory processing at home and for students when riding home on the bus.
