  • So Fresh and So Clean!

    Funded Aug 24, 2019

Thank you so much for donating to this project.Having these cleaning supplies on hand has been really beneficial in the classroom. I love that the students have taken ownership in cleaning up their work areas. I also love when a new class walks in and they are like.."what's that smell, it smells so clean.". It is definitely a change from last year when the room often smelled of dirt (from planting). I also feel that it has minimized the amount of germs in the room. They students are no longer coming into sticky, messy tables because the class before them eagerly cleaned up their messes. Thank you for your generosity.”

  • Shadow Puppets for First Graders

    Funded Apr 4, 2019

Thank you so much for donating these shadow puppet theaters to my classroom. They have been a huge success. My students had a great time exploring with the different characters. They were able to see how to make shadows bigger and smaller as they moved the puppets closer and further away from the light. They explored using different materials to create light, medium dark, and dark shadows. Once the students explored with the shadow puppets that were supplied by the kits they were then able to create their own characters and scenery. After creating the "cast" the students worked together to write and preform their scripts. I was so excited to see my first graders complete such a difficult challenge with such success. So many of my students are English language learners (ELL) and this was an amazing way to incorporate science with literacy. Thank you so much for donating to this project and making my STEM classroom a welcoming place for all to succeed”

  • REFILL Our Creativity

    Funded Mar 1, 2019

Thank you so much for donating to this project and for supporting my students creativity. The students loved using the 3D pens, having the choice of colored filament has increased their excitement immensely. The students tried many different designs with these pens. Much to my surprise they had trouble figuring out how to make their own designs come to life in 3D so I decided for them to use templates just to get comfortable using the pens. We are still working on creating structures in 3D. I am hopeful that with continued practice these students will be able to tackle anything next year, now that the fundamentals have been taken care of. I am so grateful to be able to continue this learning process because I have the materials to do so and it is all thanks to you!!!!!”

  • A Bundle of Joy and STEM

    Funded Feb 4, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation and for your help and support of this project. I am excited to announce that we were able to use the materials from the Lakeshore Makerspace Cart to have our first STEM Parent/Child workshop. The students were invited with their families to return to school and participate in an afternoon of bonding and building. The students were instructed to create a "wind car" using the material provided (mostly from the cart) such as wheels, cardboard, foam boards, construction paper, straws ect. once the students created their cars they hd to test it out at one of three stations set up (Fan station, Hair Dryer Station , and Straw station). Once they tested and recorded data they were then sent back to their stations to improve upon their design. This was a wonderful time for the students to interact with their families as well as with their peers. It was a huge success, the parents and students are already asking for another event to take place. I will be using the remainder of the materials to create other STEM activities in my classroom throughout the rest of the school year. It is thanks to donors such as yourself that I am able to bring these opportunities to the entire school. Thank you again. I hope you will check back on my page to see other exciting projects in the future.”

  • Our Plants Need Room to Grow

    Funded Jan 3, 2019

Thank you again for supporting our "plants" project. Over the last several months the students and I have put these material to great use. Our small plant have now flourished (our Tomato plants are now 3 feet tall). We have planted all different types of seeds such as: basil, oregano, marigolds, and even avocados. The students love coming into the classroom and checking on the progress of their hard work and dedication. Once we return from our spring break and the weather is hopefully warmer we will be transferring our plants outside in our school yard creating a school garden. I have also decided to begin a gardening enrichment cluster to allow the students who I do not teach to get in on the action! Thank you so much again for believing in me and my vision.”

  • Help Us Stay on POINT!!!

    Funded Dec 17, 2018

Thank you so much for donating to our project. The materials we received have already been put to good use. For example in the pictures I showed my fifth grade students using the crayons and pencils to illustrate what happens on the "nanoscale" when doing a chromatography test. They were so happy to be able to color their drawing to give a clearer picture of what they were trying to ex[plain. They were then able to use the glue sticks to glue their work into their interactive notebook so they can use their models later on in the unit. Having these materials readily available to them and having enough for each student has helped eliminate time spent looking for these materials and they are able to get right to work. It has also help lower the noise level because they do not have to ask for materials from other classmates. All of my other students (PreK to 2) have benefited from having these materials as well. Thank you so much for giving us the gift of time and a little peace and quiet.”

  • Fully Loaded STEM Classroom

    Funded Nov 16, 2018

Thank you so much for giving my students the STEM makerspace cart. They love it!! I have used the cart materials for several projects already including making s wind car and a "shelter" for animals in a rain storm I love how all of my students are planning out their ideas using the material provided in the cart. They are working and communicating with a group which is a huge accomplishment for them. Many students have trouble finding their voice in a group setting but their excitement and creativity have allowed them to get their voices heard. We love the variety of material in the cart and many of my students have already come up with new ways to use the materials. I am so happy with the outcome of this donors choose project and I know that it would not have been possible without wonderful, generous donors such as yourself. Please check back often to see other exciting projects for my STEM classroom.”

  • Let's Go,Go,Go Do Some CODING!

    Funded Nov 25, 2018

Thank you so much for donating to this wonderful project!! This cute little robot Botley has already made such a difference in my classroom. My students are working together to code the robot. Their collaboration and conversation have blown me away. Students who usually have trouble finding their voice in a group situation are now giving their input and learning how to work with others. Coding Botley has also helped my students organize their thoughts. They have to first think about and illustrate a plan for the robot. We have used the robots as mommy and baby animals trying to find each other and trying to find food. They had such a wonderful time setting up these scenarios! Thank you for giving my students this wonderful opportunity!!”

  • Starting Off on the "Write" Foot

    Funded Aug 21, 2018

Thank you so much for donating to this wonderful project. Your donation has already made a difference in my classroom. Having the supplies like the crayons, glue sticks, and pencils all in one place (in the caddy) has made a world of difference from last year. The students were always losing things and then when my next class came in they would have to waste time searching for the supplies. Having them right there in front of them has given them the gift of time and knowledge. I am so happy that we have started off on the "write" foot and we are now ready to go forward this year with the supplies we need. My students were so excited to see their new pointy crayons in 24 colors (last year we only had boxes of 8) and to be able to have sharpened pencils is a bigger deal then you can imagine. They love the new sharpener and how quiet it is. I love it too.

Thank you again for believing in my students and for providing them with these much needed resources.”

  • Becoming Engineers One Plank at a Time

    Funded Aug 17, 2018

I am so blown away by your generosity! I am so excited to finally have this project funded. This was my second attempt to get Keva planks into my classroom and because of your donation we are able to have this wonderful resource in our classroom. When I showed the Keva starter kit and Keva maze bots to my students they squealed with excitement. They were so excited to hear that these were donated to us by wonderful donors such as yourself. The first challenge the students had to complete using the Keva planks was to build a house. The only requirements were that the house needed to have four walls and a roof. The students first had to work with their group to come up with a plan of action. After they had a plan they had only 10 minutes to complete the challenge. As you can see from the pictures I posted each team came up with a unique design. I am always pleasantly surprised at how the students are given the same materials yet their designs are so different from each other. Thank you so much for believing in me and my students and for allowing us the opportunity to be creative engineers. (pictures shown are form a second grade class)”

I am asking for funding for this project, which will benefit over 300 students because I feel that students need a chance to problem solve and be creative. I find that my students have trouble being creative offline. They have very little opportunity to work hands on. They are able to work with technology but when I comes to engineering themselves they often become frustrated and give up. I believe these kits will help the students become 21st century thinkers without 21st century technology. I also feel that t will help students communicate with peers in order to complete tasks which is beneficial to my ELL population as well as my special needs students.
