  • Meeting Individual Needs in NYC

    Funded Nov 30, 2018

Thank you for your kind donations! My students come from some unfortunate situations in life and when they are at school, I hope to create a comfortable and enriching environment to each of them. I hope our classroom is a place that they can relax and enjoy a book, use games to learn new skills and technology to enrich their learning. I hope to expose each of them to possibilities that they may not come in contact with otherwise. Your donations have already provided a home environment that each child can sit back in the Big Joe chairs and read. They can play with the Fractions Pizza to have a hands on learning experience while building a foundation for fractions. A computer for them to continue their learning through technology.

These resources will truly make an impact on my students.

    Thank you for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mariquit

  • Primary Learning Supplies

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for the resources that you have supplied our classroom with. The Best-Rite TLC-2 -Deluxe Teacher's Learning Center Easel has been invaluable to our classroom. I am able to easily glide the easel to different parts of the classroom depending on the need of my students. The magnetize side allows me to use the numbers as well as write under each number to highlight when we count by 5's and 10's!

Our school has not provided any supplies as of today and school has been in session for over 4 weeks. Therefore, the Sharpie Flip chart Markers and the Post-it Super Sticky Easel Pad are basic supplies that are needed to create anchor charts and interactive graphic organizers like a Venn Diagram.

My students and I deeply appreciate your contribution to our classroom. We want to let you know that without your help, we would not have these basic necessities.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mariquit

  • Individual Listening Materials

    Funded Dec 25, 2017

Class V21 at P168X in the Bronx would like to express our deep appreciation for your generous donation. Our class has benefited greatly from the tools your donation provided.

The Hear Myself Sound Phone was a hit from the moment the kids opened the box! My students were very intrigued as to how their voice was so much louder and clearer when speaking into the "phone". I have decided that we will be referring to the phones as the "whisper phone" because of the sound amplifying into the student's ear. The children are emerging readers and these will encourage them to read to themselves at a low volume so not to interrupt their peers sitting beside them.

Sitting during a lesson is a struggle for many of my students. I have tried many subtle and playful ways to provide tactile input as a support to extend their focus. What tends to work for some students does not necessarily help others. The Disc O Sit is an inflatable seat cushion with smooth tactile bumps that provides movement such as wiggling while still remaining seated. As part of the ELA curriculum, our class has been listening to read-aloud stories to compare and contrast fairy tales from all over the world. In the weeks since implementing this cushion, students are already extending their ability to focus. As a result, they are providing more detailed responses and receiving higher comprehension scores.

Another portion of the ELA curriculum is reading decoding and comprehension. I recently registered my students to an online digital text website which pairs with the Sony On-Ear Headphones. This provides the students with the opportunity to follow along independently as the text is read. The tool challenges them to tackle higher-level texts and provides immediate feedback to multiple choice questions. Since the children are more independent, their self-confidence and reading skills have increased.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mariquit

The use of an easel with a whiteboard is a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. In math, students come to the easel during guided practice and to record modeled strategies. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as, provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. My students will use the easel to be engaged in the lessons! Participating in the whole group lesson is important to check for understanding before allowing students to work independently. Allowing students to get up and show their understanding is a positive experience for my students. The easel can also display anchor charts for students to refer to as they work independently.
