Emotional Self-Regulation Resources
Funded Nov 29, 2022Thank you so much for your generosity! With the "What Should Danny Do?" and "A Little Spot of Feelings & Emotions" resources, students have access to engaging lessons and activities which promote valuable social emotional learning skills. My students have loved the "What Should Danny Do?" books, which provide a type of "Choose Your Own Adventure" experience. My students will read these books independently, but they find it the most engaging when we read the stories aloud as a whole class. During these whole class read aloud sessions, students get to vote on the decisions Danny will make. The decisions he makes has different effects and changes the course of his day. Students get to see the direct correlation between Danny's choices and the outcomes of those choices. If Danny makes a positive choice, his day proceeds in a positive way; however, if Danny makes a negative choice, it has a negative effect on his day. They love to read and reread these books to discover all the possible combinations of storylines and outcomes.
The "A Little Spot of Feelings & Emotions" curriculum provides students with lessons and activities to accurately identify emotions in themselves and others, and teach strategies to handle overwhelming feelings. These lessons promote "self-control, self-regulation, social skills, and responsible decision-making." Each book focuses on a specific emotion, and the educators guide provides activities to accompany the book. In our classroom, we discuss the books together as I read the texts aloud, and then engage in activities associated with each of the books. My students have shown improved social skills and emotional/behavioral self-regulation skills. Many of them are experiencing more success outside of the classroom with other staff and their general education peers, they are making positive friendships and adult connections, and expressing more feelings of belonging with the whole school community.
In the coming years, I hope to make these books and curriculum available to more teachers and students around my school. By doing so, we can expand the impact of these materials to the entire school community.”

This classroom project was brought to life by an Anonymous Classroom Supporter and 3 other donors.Tablet Protective Gear and Listening Devices
Funded Aug 7, 2018Thank you so much for your generous donations. The tablet cases have added a layer of protection for the tablets, which has come in handy multiple times this year as students slip and drop them accidentally. The headphones have contributed immensely to increased focus and achievement during online instructional activities. With the headphones, my students can hear the instruction being delivered through the tablet and follow the lesson more closely. Among students working on their phonics skills and learning new English vocabulary, the headphones have also helped them to differentiate between certain sounds in a word. I'm specifically thinking of my student who is a native Spanish speaker and who has had the opportunity to hear more words being spoken in both English and Spanish using the headphones. My students were overjoyed to see the new tablet cases and headphones. They have stated the headphones are some of the best they have ever used. Thank you, again, for your generosity! We greatly appreciate you!”
