  • The Next Olympic Gymnast

    Funded Feb 15, 2018

    THESE KIDS CAN'T GET ENOUGH!!!

    "I love gymnastics!"

"Are we having gymnastics again next year?"

"Can we keep doing gymnastics all summer?"

    "Is it next year yet?!?"

What an impact gymnastics has made on these students' lives! Between our gymnastics unit during Physical Education class in school and the Gymnastics Club we provided after school, we provided over 500 students with an experience they will remember for a lifetime. They learned new gymnastics skills, experienced an activity completely foreign to many of them, and explored the amount of discipline it takes to control your body in such ways.

Thank you for being part of this magical journey that will continue to bear fruit for years to come. I thank you, the families thank you, and my students thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. McShain

  • XTreme Fitness: Operation Middle School

    Funded Feb 5, 2013

I have had the extreme pleasure of witnessing my students use, appreciate, and grow with the help of the materials your donations made possible. I wish I could express in words the enthusiasm and excitement the students have shown while getting their fitness on. But as much fun as it has been seeing the children in action, I was not fully aware of the impact your donations had until I started reading some of the individual letters and thank you notes.

The influence of your donations have gone far past what I could have ever of imagined. Not only have the students immensely enjoyed the vigorous activities, but the materials have allowed the students to take what they've been learning about strength, balance, and flexibility, as well as maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and deepen their understanding through application. Me and my students thank you from the bottom of our hearts and we will continue to honor your gifts by using them in our greatest endeavor... staying healthy.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. McShain

  • Fidgety Kids Meet Movable Chairs

    Funded Oct 20, 2010

The words "sit still" and "stop fidgeting" might always be around in a school environment. But now, thanks to you, those words are heard a little less in ours. With your donations we were able to buy a few stability balls for every class. And while every student in those classes may not get the chance to keep those cheeks moving every minute of the day, it has been amazing seeing the staff and students' response to our new initiative.

I can't walk in a class without seeing a child constantly roll back and forth and side to side... and it's completely okay. The students are more focused, they're able to concentrate better, and the balls have also become a great motivator. While I wish I could put a rubber sphere of joy under every students rear end, I am so happy that our school has been given the chance to see just how beneficial and exciting these stability balls have been.

Thank you so much and I hope you realize the power your donation has had on our small school community.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. McShain

  • World Cup Bound: Starting a Soccer Team

    Funded May 17, 2010

The World Cup in South Africa last year gave me an exciting opportunity. Not only did I love watching the games myself but I realized what types of lessons the game of soccer could teach. The camaraderie, the sportsmanship, and positive competition were all excellent examples of what the sport can do for a nation but also what it could do for my students. It was then that I realized that I wanted to allow my students to experience those joys through play. The only problem was funding, but with your help that problem was no more.

As my students and I discussed the up and coming Spring soccer team that would be forming I couldn't help but notice their excitement. I am amazed at your generosity towards someone and something you hardly know. I cannot express how much joy your donations have brought me and will bring to my students.

Just these last few weeks my students have been so excited about simply discussing the game of soccer and I know that with your donations they will begin to love it through playing the game as I have come to love it. I look forward to helping my students to fall in love with activity and lifelong fitness and I know that with your help I am one step closer. From the bottom of my heart I thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. McShain

Our students, from an inner city Kindergarten through 7th grade charter school, are intelligent, energetic, and extremely enthusiastic. They love to move and have a great time playing all types of activities. The school is 90% latino and has great spirit. Coming from the inner city, there are less open parks and thus, fewer opportunities to play in recreational sports where they would thrive in many aspects. The main challenge our students face in these endeavors is the fact that our charter school is without a gym. I, as the Health and P.E. teacher, am forced to take them to the nearby park located two blocks away for any type of vigorous activities. This has obvious downsides including rain, availability, community safety, vandalism, etc.
