Young children have short attention spans and respond better to instruction if it includes movement and hands-on action, such as getting up to answer a question or demonstrating how to use a tool. Using electronic pens to circle items or moving virtual objects with their fingers, First Grade students can sort items on a SMART Board to show what they know about a particular subject. During reading they can highlight details that support the main idea and all students can view the choices at the same time to agree or disagree. In math, I will be able to write step-by-step instruction for math problems in advance and bring them up several strategies to meet the needs of my diverse learners. Although this is my first project, I want to include the other two classes in primary, Kindergarten and Second Grades. The Second and Kindergarten students who experience difficulty with phonics, phonemic awareness, and listening comprehension will have additional reinforcement of these skills at the listening center. The teachers have requested this resource for quite some time, but funds are not available.
