  • Help My Students Learn English!

    Funded Jan 21, 2022

I am so humbled by your dedication to my project. I had barely posted this project when you jumped in to help my students. Your contribution means so much to me and my students. Thank you for your generosity and support. I'm truly so touched and so very appreciative.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lally

  • Let ELLs See and Hear!

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

Thank you for the amazing help you are providing my students! Thanks to you, my ELLs will be able to hear podcasts, watch TedTalks, and view scenes from Othello and The Great Gastby and Man on Wire - all parts of units I teach that simply need an audio/visual component. I can now also include scenes from Ghandi in my leadership unit.

I cannot tell you how much I needed a functioning computer and speaker to create a classroom that addressed the needs o my students. These are things so many professionals take for granted, but are scarce in many urban public schools. For second language students, they are essential.

Thank you again for your support of my project.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lally

My students are mainly Dominican; all are native Spanish speakers. Some come with very little formal education and have a lot of work to do to master content in which they are years behind. They are very hard workers and challenge themselves to achieve and be the first people in their families to go to college. We want to support that goal and go to great lengths to do so. They are wonderful kids and have interesting insights and perspectives and it is truly a joy to watch them learn to love Siddhartha, to engage in New York Times articles and to make connections between classes - last year the physics teacher and myself did a combined argumentative unit on concussions in the NFL. It was incredible, and thank goodness she had a working computer to demonstrate non-Newtonian fluids!
