  • It's Snack Time!

    Funded Aug 30, 2023

We want to thank you for donating much needed snacks to our class. The students were so excited at the variety of choices in our snack basket!

Snack time is such an essential time of day as it bridges the gap between lunch and dinner for the students. Our students receive free breakfast and lunch at our school. However, they are asked to bring their own daily snack. A lot of my students don't bring a daily snack.

Your generosity has provided snacks for those students! Instead of snack time being a disappointment for some students, it is now an exciting time! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morrison

  • Snack Time!

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

I want to thank you again for your generous donations to our class project, Snack Time!

A huge part of education and learning is to first meet the basic needs of the students. Although our school provides breakfast and lunch, we have a much-needed snack time in late afternoon. Students do need to provide their own snack from home and so many of the students would not have a snack. You're generosity changed this in my classroom!

We were so excited to get all of the boxes. I opened up All of the boxes with the students and we quickly found a home for everything. I promptly filled our snack basket and it has been full ever since! It will continue to be full for the rest of this school year. Now when students don't have a snack, they can just walk over and grab what they want.

Thank you again for your kindness and thoughtfulness. It truly means so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morrison

  • Listen Up!

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

I want to again thank each and every one of you. Your thoughtfulness and generosity are greatly appreciated! Thanks to you, we were able to set up a listening center in our 1st grade class.

The students were so excited to see the boxes arrive. (Almost as excited as I was!) We had discussed having a listening center for 2 months and when they saw the boxes, they wanted me to set it up that moment.

We received comfortable cushions for the listening center...the students also use them for silent reading around the room! The students enjoy using the cd player to hear a story while following along in the book. We use this to first listen to the story and then segue into independent reading of the same story. The listening center has become a favorite learning center in our classroom thanks to all of you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morrison

  • It All Adds Up to...Chromebooks!!

    Funded Aug 3, 2019

I want to start by saying Thank You from the bottom of my heart! Without all of you, this would not be possible.

I named the project, "It All Adds Up to...Chromebooks" because it combines the use of technology and math in the classroom. With some students not having computer access at home, being able to have that experience at school has been essential. These 2 Chromebooks have made a world of difference, especially during math centers.

In my classroom, students experience math in a variety of ways including hands-on manipulatives, paper/pencil activities, and collaboration through small group centers. However, in today's technical world, it is important for students to have access to digital learning as well. This hasn't replaced hands-on learning, but has been supplemental. There are wonderful student-friendly websites for math learning that we are utilizing in 1st grade.

With your help and by adding the Chromebooks to my class, more students have access to computers. This has helped keep the students engaged and has expanded their knowledge of math and computers!!

First graders are full of excitement and wonder. Thank you for helping me to nurture those qualities and encourage them to keep learning!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morrison

  • Read It! Love It!

    Funded May 1, 2018

I want to start by again saying THANK YOU! I named the project Read It! Love It! because that's how I want all students to feel about reading. I want them to love it! Reading in my classroom looks as different and unique as each one of my students. Some students like to read books that make them laugh, some like sports, nature, science, princess books and the list goes on and on. Some of my students like certain authors because we have a different "Author of the Month".

Too often students have to read stories that we give them from a set curriculum. These stories don't always peak their interest. My goal is to have available whatever book they ask about. It is such a wonderful feeling when they ask, "Do you have a book about football or princesses?" and I can say, "Yes I do!" With the collective donations of all my donors, I was able to order books to help reach more of my student's interest areas.

In addition to the books, we have new colorful cushions. Students not only have the opportunity to choose a book, but also where to sit to read the book. They grab a cushion and find that "just right" place to sit. An important part of reading is also remembering what was read. Students will sometimes complete book reports. They can do so at their desks, but they sometimes choose to grab a cushion and a clipboard and find a quiet place in the room to complete their work. This helps with independent learning. Students also use the timers when both reading and doing independent work. They know the amount of time they have and this helps with smooth transitions. Peer learning is just as beneficial as independent learning. Students in my class can partner read stories and collaborate on book reports.

When students feel empowered they can take ownership of their learning even at a young age. It is most important to foster a love of reading in 1st graders.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morrison

My first graders are very energetic, but they love to read. We have a lot of fun with our partner book talks! Students also enjoy their quiet, independent reading time.
