In my classroom, the students work hard every day. We are in a large K-8 school where the rooms have triangular shaped tables and plastic chairs for each student. They work both independently and in small group activities all around the room throughout the day.
My energetic kiddos often have a hard time sitting still in a plastic chair at a table for the whole day, so would I! In my classroom, we collaborate in groups and move around to try and keep all of the students on task and excited about learning. Many of the students have sensory issues and ADHD and need alternative seating such as bean bags and wobble chairs.
Without alternative seating options, all we have available is the floor and our seats. The students are great about moving into groups anywhere there is space....but the reality of having only bare tile floor space and the same chair doesn't meet the needs of my bright-eyed, eager, ENERGETIC class.
