Listening to literature develops a love of reading. As my kindergartners are beginning to learn to read on their own, they enjoy listening to stories as much as possible. I read every chance I get - and they are thrilled to go to the listening center! We recently inherited over 25 listening center sets - but they don't have enough books to share! Kindergartners need their own book to follow along. That way they can focus on the text as they listen and track with their finger if needed. They can more thoroughly enjoy the story with their own book.
